A forward-looking succession solution: The long-established brand Herber & Petzel Gebäudetechnik GmbH & Co. KG strengthens the KONZMANN Group within the Refrigeration Technology Division
With the acquisition of Herber & Petzel, the KONZMANN Group is adding an experienced family-owned business to its portfolio, expanding its technical expertise, and strengthening its regional presence in the Münsterland region.
The KONZMANN Group continues to grow and strengthen its expertise in refrigeration and air conditioning technology: With the long-established brand Herber & Petzel Gebäudetechnik GmbH & Co. KG from Münster, the group is acquiring a family-owned business with over 125 years of experience and 55 specialists in refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and electrical engineering. Herber & Petzel stands for craftsmanship, technical excellence, and a strong regional connection — values that align perfectly with the KONZMANN Group’s philosophy.
“With Herber & Petzel, we are gaining a family-owned business that has stood for the highest level of technical expertise, deep regional roots, and a commitment to entrepreneurship for four generations,” explains Oliver Rennig, CEO of the KONZMANN Group. “We are very pleased to welcome our colleagues to the KONZMANN family. This merger is another important step on our journey to consolidate our position as a comprehensive service provider for modern and sustainable solutions in energy and building technology responsibly and with an eye toward the future.”
As part of a strategic succession plan, Herber & Petzel will be integrated into the Refrigeration Technology Division of the KONZMANN Group. This merger strengthens the group’s strategic and geographic position, particularly in the Münsterland region, expands its regional presence and operational capacity, and opens up new synergies and growth opportunities for sustainable, joint development. The Refrigeration Technology Division will thus be able to serve customers across the board in the future not only regionally through close cooperation between the north and south, but also with a view to tapping into new customer groups. Furthermore, the integration enables close coordination of the refrigeration, air conditioning, electrical engineering, and ventilation trades within the division an approach that creates a comprehensive range of services from a single source and is unique in this form.
“With the integration of Herber & Petzel, we are strengthening the north-south axis of our Refrigeration Technology Division and gaining additional technical depth in the fields of refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and electrical engineering. This will enable us to leverage our synergies even more effectively, tap into new market potential, and offer our customers an even broader range of services,” explains Rainer Keen, spokesperson for the Refrigeration Technology Division. “I have the utmost confidence in our new colleagues. Guided by the principle of ‘strong local subsidiaries,’ we deliberately allow our companies the space to make independent decisions and exercise entrepreneurial initiative. This trust is the foundation of our sustainable success.”
For Herber & Petzel, the decision to change ownership marks a significant milestone in the company’s 125-year history. The Schaffstein family, which has led the company for four generations, describes the process as well-considered and values-driven: “We did not take the decision to change ownership lightly it was a matter close to our hearts,” explains the Schaffstein family. “After four generations of successful leadership and with the awareness that we needed to secure a viable succession early on, it was a logical and responsible step for us to hand the company over to reliable hands. In the KONZMANN Group, we have found the ideal partner to lead Herber & Petzel into a strong fifth generation. This allows us to preserve our established identity, our values, and our close ties to employees and customers while simultaneously looking forward to a shared future within a corporate group that is excellently positioned both technically and organizationally.”
The integration of the long-established company Herber & Petzel into the KONZMANN Group exemplifies a forward-looking succession solution that combines entrepreneurial responsibility, tradition, and progress with a clear focus on sustainable growth, technical innovation, and shared values.
